The Yacht Club volunteers it's boats and time to support the National Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity whose members ride bicycles from coast to coast during the Summer months. The purpose of their ride is to increase handicap awareness as part of a Push America initiative. The Journey of Hope is divided into three teams of 35 riders each. One team takes a northern route from the West Coast to Washington, D.C. A second team takes a route through the middle of the country and the third team takes a route that takes them from San Francisco through Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia to Washington, D.C. The bicycle teams average 75 miles per day on their 4,000 mile journey across America. Team number three made a stop in Lake Havasu City on day 19 of their 67 day trip during 2006. They had a very busy day while in Havasu, with welcoming parties, ceremonies and dinners to attend. However, their advocate here in Havasu, Brigid Stevens, also arranged for some rest and relaxation during the day. And that is where the London Bridge Yacht Club had an opportunity to contribute our time and boats to this worthy endeavor. Where else but on Lake Havasu can visitors better enjoy what our city is all about? The pictures on the pages below tell a portion of the story of the Journey of Hope's visit to Lake Havasu City during 2005 and 2006. They will be returning in 2007 for a two day stay.
